Synopsis

SUMMER OF SERENDIPITY

“where time captures the warm embrace of summer, chance weaves in beautiful coincidences…”

Summer of Serendipity is an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s play, You Never Can Tell (1896). Shaw’s original play, one of his rare work, was first staged in 1899.  Set in late Victorian England, it tells the story of a family’s stay at a seaside resort.

Meet the uninhabited twins who are trying to figure their way into the complex adult world; their elder sister, an epitome of beauty and reason; their idealist feminist mother who courageously fought for her principles, at the price of her marriage.

What begins as a peaceful vacation leads to a catastrophic family reunion upon a chanced discovery. Surviving just by the wit and tact of their faithful waiter, the family ties which are rejoined is severed once more as the father asserts his guardianship. Meanwhile, romance blooms between their elder sister and the dashing dentist.

As the plot thickens, songs are serenaded, tables banged and emotions buried for 18 years are revealed as husband and wife again engaged in another marital battle. Will the sun and sea offer nature’s nurturing wisdom?  Or will the waves wash away the momentary calmness and rush in the tempest of drama?
